Portrait Photography

IMG_2786 RED JJBI have worked as a professional photographer for 17 yrs and qualified as a Licentiate with the British Institute of Professional Photography.

My images have been displayed in Bonhams, the Royal West of England Academy and I have had a solo exhibition in Trinity College, Oxford.

I specialise in informal portraiture  carried out in your own home, garden or place of your choice. Much of my work is photographing families, often including three generations – plus the animals!  I also do individual portrait sessions and special sessions with special animals.

After years using studio lighting and film I find the  freedom and spontanaity that results from working with people in their own homes using a good digital camera is far better.   The result is relaxed studies which not only capture the sitter’s character and style, but also the atmosphere that goes with a unique sense of place.

Browse my website and look at some of my portraits and then get in touch. I also do fashion and press photography, and what is coming to be called digital art imaging  – in fact I just love taking photographs and working with people to make arresting images. Perhaps this is why people so often tell me that they have actually enjoyed their portrait session and have found the experience interesting and fun.

For two years, until October 2011 I founded and edited the Wincanton Window www.wincantonwindow.co.uk where you will see a lot of my photographs illustrasting various articles.

Currently I continue to photograph and write for the Window while spending more time on personal projects artistic, and photographic. I also write on a variety of subjects see www.johnbaxter.org
